Canadian Old Fashioned Cookies

- 3/4 cup (170g) butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar, plus extra for rolling
- 1/4 cup (60ml) Crosby’s Fancy molasses
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in molasses and egg until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in granulated sugar to coat.
- Place balls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are set but centers are still soft. They’ll look slightly underbaked.
- Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
