Our History

Crosby has been importing the world’s finest molasses to the East Coast of Canada since 1879; supplying retailers across Canada and into New England.

Our founder, Lorenzo George Crosby, started with a grocery store in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia at the age of 20. He established his import/export business by trading local fish and lumber for fancy molasses from the Caribbean, which he supplied to retailers in Atlantic Canada, Quebec, and New England.

By 1897, Crosby’s sweet success was growing and he moved operations to Saint John, New Brunswick. By 1911, Crosby’s moved to a bigger manufacturing plant on Rothesay Avenue, where the company remains to this day. In 1997, the Grandma brand, available exclusively in the province of Quebec, joined the Crosby family.

Five generations later, Crosby Foods Limited continues to flourish as a small, independent, family-owned business.

For the past several decades, the source of our molasses has exclusively been from Madre Tierra, in Santa Lucia, Guatemala.

As one of Canada’s most trusted food companies, Crosby Foods is recognized for its high standards of quality, in both its food products and its people.
