  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs well beaten
  • ½ cup Fancy Molasses
  • 1¾ cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup seeded raisins


  1. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually. Blend in eggs and molasses. Sift flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg, add rolled oats. Stir into the shortening mixture. Mix in chopped raisins. Drop by teaspoon on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375°F for approximately 10 minutes.

    I love Crosby’s… have the recipe books and now look for them on line. However, these oatmeal cookies were horrible. I could not salvage one of them. I have been baking for years and this is the first time I had to throw the entire lot in the bin. Should have commented on all the stuff that is terrific but after reading this guys comment about how good they were, I decided to make them today and… well… not good… After the first batch came out I thought I better check the ingredients and temperature etc etc etc. followed everything as instructed… anyway… won’t attempt them again but will always try all your other wonderful recipes…

    1. Hi Michelle, This is an old Crosby’s recipe that from before my time so I haven’t made them. Were they too soft? Not flavourful? This is my favourite chewy oatmeal raisin cookie:
