The recipe looks good, but roughly how many donuts does it make?

    1. Hi Bret, This is an old Crosby’s recipe that has been around for eons. I’m afraid I haven’t ever made them so am not sure how many doughnuts the recipe makes.

Crosby’s molasses donuts are a great treat I grew up eating near the NB Canada border in Maine. Well worth the time and effort!

Can this recipe be refrigerated overnight?

    1. Bridget Oland says:

Hi Thelma, You should be fine refrigerating the recipe overnight as long as you have time to bring it up to room temperature on baking day.

      1. Bishop J says:

My grandmother always refrigerated overnight and fried the next morning. Never let them warm up. They’re easier to handle chilled. People generally add more flour as it’s a softer stickier dough. More flour and they become tough.

Thanks for this terrific guidance. This is an old Crosby’s recipe and I haven’t tried it yet, but when I do I’ll be sure to follow your suggestions.

Hi, I’m wondering where in Maine these molasses donuts may be sold? Thanks.

    1. Bridget Oland says:

Hi Leighton, I know that you can buy Mrs. Dunster’s Molasses Doughnuts in Maine (In Irving convenience stores, I believe, and possibly more places). Willow Bake Shoppe in Rockland makes great molasses doughnuts too.
