Molasses Crinkles


  • ¾ cup shortening
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup Fancy Molasses
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ginger


  1. Cream shortening, then add sugar gradually. Beat in egg and Fancy Molasses. Add sifted dry ingredients. Chill 1 hour. Shape into balls the size of walnuts. Place on greased cookie sheet. Press with fork. Brush top with cold water and sprinkle each cookie with sugar.
  2. Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes.

    Hello, I found this recipe that had been printed off in Oct. 30, 2011. I decided to make it today. Unfortunately, the recipe at that time called for 2 Tablespoons of Baking Soda instead of 2 tsp. !! Yuk… I wondered why they tasted weird and they didn’t puff up like the picture showed. What a shame and a waste of ingredients and time.
